I tried all the solutions without success. Finally started my car and plugged the phone in the car charger and voila! the annoying - car kit- was gone.

After researching this topic for hours, I found something that worked for my LG VX4500 that got left out in the rain. I tried all of the solutions posted above, and NOTHING WORKED. Read this article, and the responses. Basically, if you stick foil into the bottom of the phone where it docks it causes a surge and the phone will reset. It took me 3-4 attempts, but it finally worked.! No more car kit mode. My phone was left out during a downpour and this still worked.

My daughter to had this problem with her LG vx6000. She dropped it in a puddle of water and it sat there for about 5 seconds. I found out about it 3 days later. After looking thru these posts, and trying most of them. none of which worked, I then read "jpblufish's" post. You have water damage when the white dot on the inside of the battery turns pink, and Car Kit appears on your screen(no sounds either). You'll need a very small flat screwdriver. Rub it on a magnet to magnetize it ( makes it much easier taking out the screws). Remove the battery, remove the 4 black screws. Pry out the 2 small grey plugs near the hinge and remove the 2 screws. Carefully insert the edge of the screwdriver between the battery side and the keyboard and twist until they break apart. Pull back off but watch out for the small wires connecting the two halves. Lift up on the circuit board. Take a hair dryer (not to hot) and blow on it for a few minutes. I also used a can of compessed air ( radio shack has it). Dry out everything, the battery too, and put it back together. It works like new. Thanks jpblufish!!

What worked for me was to have my son send me a text message. I had tried drying it with a hair dryer, plugging/unplugging the headset, plugging/unplugging the cigarette lighter charger, to no avail. The text message did the trick.
The phone was not dropped in water or saturated. There was just moisture from humidity underneath the plastic part of the case which covers the display.

Well, had a baby suck on mine a month ago and used insurance, which cost me $45 to replace phone. Today a cup of water tipped from one cup holder to the one the phone was in and......So I tried and tried the suggestions, but had no luck....but kept trying! And it finally worked! THANKS! Used the paperclip in the charging end and moved it around.
Was scared for a while, as at one point my screen was totally blank prior to trying any methods. But by the time I got home, the picture was back on it.

| Quote: | | Seems like lots of people have had similar problems. This is a racket. I've had Motorola phones that have been rained on and kept working. The LG, though a nice phone, seems prone to this problem and with this "moisture indicator" pink spot seems like an excuse to disclaim warranty coverage. |
It most certainly isn't a racket. I am a phone technician, and I can tell you firsthand that the LG moisture indicator doesn't trip easily.
The LG VX6000 goes into constant Car Kit mode mostly for one of two reasons. First and foremost, the phone got wet enough that enough water entered the charging port, causing corrosion to form on the outside. Many times, however, the corrosion is on the base of the circuit board on the inside of the phone where the charging port is soldered to the rest of the phone. Cleaning the port, as well as opening the phone and cleaning all signs of corrosion (some of it is very hard to see) with NAPA electronics cleaner and allowing it to dry is the best way to try and reverse the problem.
The other reason an LG trips into Car Kit mode is physical damage to the charging port, where some of the tiny pin connectors have been bent or broken and are usually touching (even very slightly). Make sure that isn't the case by confirming that the black lining strip is still attached beneath the row of connectors, and that none are bent out of place (do this while looking for signs of corrosion).
Read your LG warranty information. Getting your phone wet enough to trip the moisture indicator voids LG's warranty, which is what Verizon is honoring on behalf of the manufacturer. Doesn't matter whether you agree or not, no phone manufacturer is going to replace your device for a problem caused by you getting it wet.
Any other LG that goes into Car Kit (a very small percentage) without one of these two factors is normally fixed by simply flashing the firmware. However I've only seen a handful that weren't in that mode due to liquid or physical damage.
Hope this helps someone out.

I got the "Car Kit" problem after my son's LG VX3200 got wet. I tried all of the suggestions posted but nothing worked. I finally had to open the phone. There are 5 screws (1 hidden under a rubber thing next to antenna). I used a small screw driver to carefully pry the case apart and it comes off pretty cleanly. I did see some corrosion near the bottom and right side of the board. I cleaned it out by dipping a toothbrush in a little bit of rubbing alcohol and brushing off the corroded areas. Blow it dry using dust spray and put it back together.

Hi!
Somehow, while on vacation in Virginia last week, (90's) my lg 6100 either got wet due to the humidity or water (who knows). Regardless, the "car kit" mode just popped up and wouldn't go away. I've been searching the internet since (every night) and tried all of the code suggestions but nothing worked. I went to the store and they said I needed a new phone and that there was nothing they could do because I HAD ruined it with water damage (????) (do they look for the most obnoxious and rude metrosexual 22 year old men then can find to work in these stores?!) Sorry to insult anyone, I was just very irritated with the attitude I got from not one, but three of the people working there!
Shortly after storming out of the store, I called the Verizon hotline number and the person, who was very friendly and helpful, told me, almost in a whisper, strangely enough, what i should do: He suggested 1-plugging a car charger in the car, then the phone, 2-turn the car on for a few minutes, 3-pull the plug out of the lighter, then the plug out of the phone.
Bear in mind, it did not work last night, however, this morning, it had reset it self and is now working perfectly! Alleluia! How unethical is it for these stores to not look into this, and instead, go for the commision sales instead?!?!!?!?!?!

Hi all! I wanted to add my experience to this thread because I haven't seen anyone that was told the same information I received at my local Verizon store.
My VX7000 has randomly done the car kit thing in the past, but now that I look back, it was mostly when I left the phone on the sink ledge while in the shower, thereby exposing it to a lot of steam, which would cause the problem as described by others here, and it always went away within 15 minutes or so. Two days ago when it wouldn't go away at all (it still hasn't), it hadn't been near anything that would have messed with anything.
The Verizon person at the Tech Support desk told me that the problem was that some how my connector on the bottom of the phone (the one for the charger and all data cables) had become broken, and was shorting itself out, causing the -carkit- symptom. They offered to replace the phone for $50 since it's still under the 1-year warranty, which is much better than paying the full purchase price for the phone again.
This shorting out problem could also be part of what causes the carkit message when the phone is exposed to moisture. If there is water between the pins in the connector, it would create a short, and cause the carkit message. Remove the water (and any damage the water itself caused), remove the problem.
Hopefully within the next couple of days, I'll have a brand new VX7000 in perfect working order, and at least I'll feel more informed about the behavior of my phone. Thanks to everyone who posted all the fixes; I religiously tried them all.

Hello everyone,
I was about to rage at the phone in this post, so if you are like me and are thinking, "I didn't drop it, and then dern thing isn't wet, so what's the deal!" just take a look at the car adapter port on the bottom very closely before anything else.
I just got off the phone with my wife, got out of my car and went into my hotel room. Somewhere inbetween there (no moisture, no drop) something got into the bottom port of my phone. I had to look closely to see it, and once I removed the small amount of gunk, the phone went back normal.
I guess this alert can be nice (coming from a guy who was about to throw his phone out the 5th floor window) BUT I'd like to see "Gunk in bottom port" in place of Car Kit, which I still have no idea what that's really supposed to mean.
The only reason I looked there was because of this thread, so thanks.
Now I gotta call my wife before she thinks I've been ignoring her calls...
