Firmware is the basic operating system of your phone.
A new firmware might erease some bug you've encountered or add (and sometimes) removes features.
You neither get any informations how and where to download firmware nor any information about how to flash the phone.
Nokia firmware isn't public domain. You're not allowed to download it or flash the phone on your own.
For most phones the only legal way to get a new firmware is a Nokia Care Center (you can find their locations on the Nokia website).
Durring warranty a firmware update is for free (be sure you've got your bill to proof the purchase-date of the phone).
To check the firmware version of your phone press *#0000#
Update:
Nokia now released its Software Updater. It allows you to update you phones firmware via DKU-2 or CA-52 cable.
