Hi All
I am hoping that someone can help me here. I have been reading around various forums and I am totally confused.

I have a SE K700i and would like to be able to play MP3 as ringtone. I know that Vodafone have restricted this on thier handsets (K700i). The firmware that I have is R2N001.

On reading the forums I have discovered that I need R2V001 to be able to play them (as long as I use the DRM Packager - which I have). The question I have is how to get this firmware.

I have contacted Vodafone and the mong that I have been emailing says that there is no such firmware. Obviously there is.

How can I get this?

I have looked at the SE Site and they have a live update service via the DSS-25 but it would appear that it will not work with Vodafone R2V001.

Vodafone seem unable to help.

I really dont know what to do now. I have read that a Sony Ericsson Service Center might be able to upgrade it but does anyone know where one of these is?

Also, there is the DaVinci thing which, I think, will totally debrand the phone but I don't know if this will work either.

What I need is the help of someone who has a K700i in the UK and has sucessfully been able to play MP3 as ringtone and let me know how they did it because I am confused beyond belief.

Thanks

Lee

There's a postal service that can probably do it in 7-10 working days. There might be one where you live too. Wherabouts are you?

If you have the DRM packager you do not need to update your firmware. You only need to update the firmware if you want the phone to play standard mp3's.
Try using the DRM packager and transfer the *.DRM file to your phone, then it will work.
good luck

Howdy

Not sure I understand half what you have said but the simplest way forward is to debrand the phone. You can do this online in conjunction with the right cable. Search the forums here for info, thats where I got the info a coupple of months ago.

It is a piece of cake. You pays the money online with credit or debit card, they send you a cable and an email with some log on details. When you get the cable you plug into Serial port on PC, log onto web site, enter user details and a special code they give ya and 30 minutes later your phone is nuked and all of a sudden you have real color logos on your phone instead of the washed out rubbish you so ogten get with branded phones.

Once you have done this you will never have any more problems with MP3, WAV files. Get some free software to cut tracks to size. You can then either Bluetooth'em to your phone or use a cable.

this is what I did and I now have over 50 different MP3 ringtones and oit is reallyu simple not like the nightmare you are going through. When i get home from work I will check my stuff and see if I can did out the web site details for ya.

later
