Black Friday is around the corner, and retailers are slashing the prices of some of the biggest tech products for the occasion.
Smartphones and tablets are far from the cheapest gifts customers can buy, but several retailers are looking to ease that burden. Stores are lengthening their hours and rolling out sales this Friday, which are sure to draw massive crowds of frenzied shoppers.A slew of devices aim to compete for consumer dollars, but culling some of the best deals out of the maelstrom may help customers better strategize for the biggest shopping day in the U.S.
AppleThe company may not cut its prices to the extent of some of its competitors, largely because its products sell so well anyway. Still, Black Friday is probably the best time to find a deal on Apple's tablet. What's on Sale: iPad 2. Where: Apple retail stores and Best Buy. What's the Deal: $45 off all iPad 2 models.
Android and Other TabletsThe tablet market has seen a lot of growth over the past year, but companies are still struggling against the iPad. Luckily, they're looking to catch up with some big sales. What's on Sale: Toshiba Thrive, BlackBerry PlayBook and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Where The PlayBook can be found at most major retailers at the $200 price, while the Thrive and Galaxy Tab deals are Best Buy exclusives. What's the Deal: The Thrive gets a $100 price cut, the PlayBook drops down to $200 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 keeps its $500 price tag but comes with a free keyboard dock.
E-ReadersWhat's on Sale: Kindle Keyboard 3G, Kindle Wi-Fi and Nook Color. Where: Best Buy and Target are running the sale on the Kindle Keyboard, while Radio Shack and Staples are handing out $10 and $15 gift cards to buyers of the Kindle Wi-Fi and Nook Color. What's the Deal: The Kindle Keyboard gets a $50 price cut, and the Kindle Wi-Fi and Nook Color are being offered with gift cards by retailers.
Smartphones OnlineWireless providers run specials on smartphones in-store all the time, but online shoppers may strike the best deals of all this weekend. What's on Sale: All smartphones on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, with the exception of the iPhone. Where: Amazon.com until November 28. What's the Deal: All devices are just 1 cent when users add a line to an existing contract, or sign up for a new two-year agreement.
Smartphones in StoresCustomers who want to get the full in-store Black Friday experience while still getting a great deal on smartphone are also in luck. What's on Sale: Samsung Galaxy S2 for AT&T, Motorola Photon 4G for Sprint and Droid Charge for Verizon. Where: Sam's Club. What's the Deal: Each of the phones can be had for under $1 when customers sign up for a new two-year agreement with their provider.
Portable GamingNintendo ceded ground in the portable gaming market to smartphone platforms Android and iOS. However, the holidays offer the opportunity at a sales rebound with special deals on new systems. What's on Sale: Nintendo 3DS. Where: Best Buy and Target are both confirmed carriers of the limited edition bundle packs. Target will also offer the 3DS without a bundle for $145, down from its usual price of $170. What's the Deal: Two different 3DS bundle packs keep the price of the 3DS at $180, but also include either Super Mario 3D Land or Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.
If You Want It, Get In Line NowStores are opening earlier than ever this year. Best Buy and Target are opening their doors at midnight, and some of the deals being offered on TVs will likely result in lines forming as soon as... well, right now. What's on Sale: Sharp 42-inch 1080p LCD TV, Westinghouse 46-inch 1080p LCD TV. Where: Customers can grab the Sharp TV at Best Buy and the Westinghouse at Target. What's the Deal: The Sharp TV will sell for $200, while the Westinghouse will go for $300.
