An iPhone case aims to make charging mobile devices easier with built-in space for a power cable, as makers attempt to solve the increasing problem of limited battery life.
Philadelphia-based CaseInity created the shatter-proof case, which houses a 9.5-inch USB charging cable, and is currently seeking funding for the first production batch on Kickstarter.com.Upstarts and manufacturers are pursuing new methods to charge the growing number of mobile devices. Heavy data usage drains battery power quickly, and as the prevalence of smartphones continues to increase, frequent charging becomes an annoying and costly problem. Other efforts focus on wireless and solar charging, with some using sunlight or bicycle power allowing users to disconnect from outlets and still retain the ability to repower their devices on-the-go. However, wireless charging technology is still an emerging field prone to glitches, and can sometimes take hours longer to complete a charge than a portable cable can. Electric cables are still the most efficient way to charge mobile devices. That's where CaseInity hopes the Cord-on-Board will come in. Users would still be required to plug their phones in, but at least their cables will be with them at all times and easy to find. Unfortunately, room to store a cable also makes the case a bit bulky for those who relish the slender body of the iPhone, but the shock-resistant casing does offer solid protection from bumps and scratches. The Cord-on-Board may not eliminate the need to physically charge the iPhone's battery, but it offers consumers an easier way to store and transport a crucial accessory for their smartphones, and could prove extremely popular for millions of Apple fans.
