Researchers at Siemens have developed new mobile technology similar to Post-It Notes. In cooperation with researchers at the University of Linz in Austria and the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, the "digital graffiti" technology allows cell phone users to send SMS messages to physical geographical locations.

Having led the way in establishing the true camera phone category during 2004, Sony Ericsson's new focus for 2005 will be music. An Australian mobile phone group is launching a campaign to help combat the increasing trend of school yard bullying by text message. A recent study showed 14% of first year high school students in Brisbane had been harassed by SMS.
"People who use mobiles think they can get away with it, they believe they were anonymous and they won't get caught, they are wrong on both counts," said Randal Markey from the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association.

Judge Caroline Ludlow took the unusual step to sentence a man over a cell phone. The defendant, Aftab Ahmed, had earlier pled guilty in the case. However a crash on the highway prevented him from arriving on time for his sentencing.
Mr. Ahmed called and alerted the judge about his delay. ''When she heard of the problem, the judge said that to save wasting public money by adjourning the case she was considering passing sentence over the phone," said court clerk Rachel Bonner.

Thailand's Election Commission sent text messages to 25 million cell phone customers politely reminding them to vote in weekend elections.
"You are cordially invited to exercise your right to vote on February 6, between 8 am and 3 pm," read the message written in Thai.
Wilai Keangpradoo, spokeswoman for Advance Info Service, Thailand's largest mobile operator said, "We will send periodic reminders until election day encouraging people to vote."

Pictures of the unreleased HP iPAQ hw6500 were leaked online today. Replacing the iPAQ h6315, HP is planning to introduce the Mobile Messenger with a 1.3-megapixel camera with flash, 1,200 mAh swappable battery, GPS, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
HP has made no official announcements about the hw6500; however details were mentioned that it will run on GSM/GPRS networks, supporting EDGE high-speed transfer rates of 100 kbps to 130 kbps. HP will demonstrate a prototype at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France on Feb 14.
