Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced its co-development with NTT DoCoMo of a prototype high-capacity micro fuel cell and the prototype development of an external recharger for FOMA handsets. For the prototype micro fuel cell device, the concentration of the methanol fuel used was raised from 30%, the concentration used for the companies' previous fuel cells, to a remarkably higher concentration of over 99%. This enables the prototype device to charge up to three FOMA handset batteries with just 18 cc of methanol.

PalmSource, provider of Palm OS operating system, today announced that LG Electronics has signed an agreement to license Palm OS worldwide. Under terms of the agreement, LG Electronics can develop and market smartphones based on Palm OS.

The Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) and Sprint today announced an agreement through which Disney will create the first national U.S. wireless phone service specifically designed for families. The service, called Disney Mobile, will use the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network and is slated to launch next year.

GoTV Networks, an on-demand mobile television provider, announced that it will broadcast coverage of Live 8, the worldwide concert event created to raise awareness of poverty in Africa, on its new alternative music channel, ALTitude. The broadcast will be available beginning on July 2, 2005 at 1 p.m. EDT to coincide with the concert kick off.

Motorola today announced the availability of its commercial Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC) Clients for Symbian and UIQ mobile devices. The release of Motorola PoC Clients for both Symbian Series 60 and UIQ mobile devices will enable operators to bring PoC services to market faster with an extended range and choice of PoC devices, as development time to add the new PoC feature to existing Symbian and UIQ devices is reduced.

Samsung Electronics today announced that the company has developed an optimized QVGA display driver IC (DDI) chip that incorporates Qualcomm's Mobile Display Digital Interface (MDDI). By including this serial interface technology, Samsung's new S6D0142 DDI chip reduces the number of wires that run across the hinge of wireless 3G clamshell handset designs to interconnect Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets with the LCD display. Mobile handsets with Samsung's new S6D0142 DDI chip will also be more reliable due to a simplified design.
