Sprint and MobiTV, the global leader in providing live mobile television services and technology, today announced that both companies have won historic recognition: The Emmy Engineering Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development from The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Winning The Emmy Award for mobile television marks the first time the wireless industry has achieved such unique and high-profile recognition from the entertainment industry. MobiTV and Sprint were the first companies to put live mobile television in the hands of consumers.

According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, a total of 9 million WCDMA (3G) phones were shipped worldwide during the second quarter of 2005 (April to June). Nokia topped the list of vendor-rankings for the first time, with a 17 per cent global share.

According to Ziff Davis Media's annual "Digital Gaming in America" survey of more than 1,500 randomly selected U.S. households, cell phone gaming continued its meteoric rise in 2005: the number of households engaged in cell phone gaming nearly doubled again, jumping from 16.3 million last year to 27.9 million this year.

Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the company's first Symbian OS-based smartphones (SGH-D720 / SGH-D730) for the European market. This marks Samsung's full-fledged entry into the European smartphone market. The D720 and D730 will be introduced in succession, starting with Germany in August, followed by France, Italy and Russia.

Verizon Wireless and Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced the completion of the wireless industry's first, live, over-the-air calls using CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A technology. The two companies plan to conduct a more extensive technology trial in early 2006, which will include the delivery of Voice over IP (VoIP) and new, "blended lifestyle" services and simultaneous multimedia applications that combine voice, data and video capabilities such as video telephony.

Texas Instruments (TI) today announced that the company's fifth generation Bluetooth solution has passed the qualification for Bluetooth specification v2.0 and enhanced data rate (EDR) by the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group). TI's solution delivers the fastest version of enhanced data rate (EDR) to support speeds up to 3Mbps in a Bluetooth network for bandwidth intensive applications on 2.5G and 3G mobile phones, including faster downloads of MP3 files and digital photos.

Power and Associates' recent report on wireless call quality performance, Spotwave, a leading supplier of carrier approved in-building wireless coverage products, reveals that the majority of website inquiries to the company regarding indoor coverage enhancement come from areas where outdoor wireless coverage is sufficient.
