Qualcomm and Connexion, a business unit of The Boeing Company, announced today that they are working together to test and demonstrate in-flight wireless communications aboard Connexion One, a specially equipped Boeing 737-400 aircraft.

The search application is a simple, convenient, and fast way for Nokia smartphone users to find and connect to any website as well as local search engines, whenever, wherever. The current service and content providers incorporated in the search application include Eniro, Fonecta, Medio Systems, Yahoo!, Yell.com, as well as digital map solution provider AtlasCT and digital map data provider NAVTEQ.

Court TV has inked a deal with mobile video provider SmartVideo, which provides live, full motion TV to cellular phones. The deal will provide four kinds of content on four different channels on this subscriber-based service. Viewers will have access to Court TV News' content live from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Video-On-Demand of Court TV's Seriously Entertaining primetime programming, access to online content including web clips and trial coverage, and the live network feed directly from the satellite.

Customers can hold the drama and excitement of the hit TV game show in the palms of their hands, answering mind-bending questions and using up to four lifelines to get to the million dollar question.

Nokia Successfully Broadcasts Live Mobile TV

Mobile TV broadcasts continue in August at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki, where the guests of the companies behind the Finnish Mobile TV project will be able to use mobile TV for the first time at an international sporting event. YLE (The Finnish Broadcasting Company) will be providing mobile TV users with a multi-channel package, including a domestic broadcast of the Championships, which includes both YLE TV1 and YLE TV2's coverage of the Championships. In addition, mobile TV users will receive the compilation broadcast for international distribution and five special Championships broadcasts of individual events (running events, field events, race walking and the marathon). Each event can thus be followed without a break from start to finish.


Live Horse Racing Arrives on Cell Phones

SmartVideo Technologies today announced that it has entered into a revenue sharing partnership agreement with The National Raceline to stream live horse racing to mobile phones from racetracks around the country. The National Raceline has provided instant race calls and results via the telephone to the racing community since 1989. This development allows racing fans to watch their favorite races live directly on their handheld mobile devises via mobile phones, PDAs and Wi-Fi connections. Horse racing has a base of tens of millions of fans among American adults (18 years or older) who have wagered on races in the past two years.


American Tower and SpectraSite Agree To Merge

American Tower Corporation and SpectraSite, Inc. announced today an agreement for American Tower to merge with SpectraSite, in a transaction that would bring together two tower industry leaders with a combined portfolio of over 22,600 communications sites.


Verizon Ranks Highest in Call Quality in 5 of 6 Regions

Despite an increase in wireless calling volume, the average number of initial connection problems has dropped 50 percent compared to 2004, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2005 Wireless Call Quality Performance StudySM released today.
