Skype today launched Personalise Skype, letting Skype's 55 million callers show off their individuality with sounds, ringtones and pictures. Qpass, whose software provides the fastest path to profit in digital media commerce, will fully manage the Personalise Skype storefront, including content sourcing and management.

SanDisk and Sony today announced the development of the "Memory Stick Micro" format, an ultra-small IC recording media designed to meet the growing storage needs of highly compact, multifunctional mobile phones. Licensing for the development of "Memory Stick Micro" compatible hardware will begin October 3, 2005.

SanDisk Corporation today made entertainment history by launching gruvi, the first removable flash memory card of its type to be sold with premium music content. And SanDisk's debut release in this new medium is none other than A Bigger Bang from EMI Music's Virgin Records, the bestselling album from the legendary Rolling Stones. The announcement was made at a press conference during the CTIA Show in Moscone West Convention Center, where SanDisk is demonstrating its products at Booth 944.

Heralding a significant breakthrough in mobile entertainment, SanDisk Corporation today introduced TrustedFlash, a new technology that will enable consumers to buy premium music, movies and games on flash memory cards for use interchangeably in mobile phones, laptop computers, PDAs and other portable devices. The announcement was made at a press conference at the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment Show, where SanDisk is showing products at Booth 944.

Though WiMAX faces several key challenges in the Asia Pacific market, its subscriber base will grow from more than 80,000 in 2005 to more than 3.8 million by 2009, reports In-Stat. In 2009, Asia Pacific WiMAX subscribers will account for 45% of the world total, the high-tech market research firm says.

Cingular Wireless and Nokia today introduced to the U.S. marketplace the EDGE-powered Nokia 9300 business device with BlackBerry Connect. Cingular is the first U.S. carrier to launch the popular BlackBerry wireless services on a third-party handset via the BlackBerry Connect licensing program from Research In Motion (RIM). The Nokia 9300 will be available in the U.S. through Cingular Wireless beginning in November.

Mobile music services - either in the form of downloadable music files or broadcast digital radio - have greater interest among U.S. mobile customers than gaming, an application that is now providing some of the greatest mobile data revenue, reports In-Stat. However, the ecosystem that will permit widespread uptake of music applications is not yet mature, and shows signs of being put on hold until key issues, such as pricing, revenue sharing and Digital Rights Management (DRM), can be worked out, the high-tech market research firm said.

An Amplitude Research survey of 2,400 consumers, including 2,000 cell phone users - conducted over a two-week period ending Sept. 20, 2005 - revealed strong support of a policy that limits cell phone usage to immediately before or immediately after school, but not during school hours. Overall, 85% of the respondents would support such a policy, with similarly high levels of support among the 2,000 cell phone user respondents and the 1,100 respondents with school age children.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications today announced the introduction of Auto pairing, a unique proprietary solution, that makes it quicker and easier to connect Bluetooth equipped headsets to Sony Ericsson mobile phones. The company demonstrated this new functionality at a press event arranged by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group in Stockholm today.
