Though consumers aren't wildly enthusiastic about mobile advertising, about 20% of wireless phone users in a recent survey would find some form of advertising on their mobile handsets to be acceptable, reports In-Stat. Of that group, roughly half were open to having advertisers subsidize the cost of premium services such as directory assistance, ringtones and messaging, the high-tech market research firm says. Location-based ads and opt-in advertising will also find some acceptance, the survey revealed.

Samsung Electronics announced that it has developed a 7.2 Megapixel CMOS image sensor (CIS). It is the world's first 7.2M-pixel CIS for compact cameras with the smallest pixel size. Higher resolution CIS chips reflect industry-wide attention on CIS technology as a promising new imaging technology as well as a feasible replacement of charge-coupled device (CCD), especially in mobile applications such as camera phones, digital still cameras and digital camcorders.

Adaptix, a leader in software defined, all-IP Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless mobile broadband access technologies, and the NY3G Partnership, a Broadband Radio Services (BRS) spectrum licensee in New York City, today announced a trial of Adaptix' line of broadband fixed and mobile OFDMA / TDD pre-WiMAX systems. Motorola announced today that it has acquired from Melco Mobile Communication Europe (MMCE), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, a European team of i-mode design employees and a research center in western France. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
