While RFID (Radio Frequency ID) and GPS (Global Positioning System) applications remain relatively rare among large enterprises, these two application areas will likely become much more common after the next round of wireless contracts are secured. This is one of the findings of a new study, Enterprise Wireless Trends: Carrier Positioning, Applications and Purchasing Behaviors, conducted by Harris Interactive(R) and ForceNine Consulting on the wireless purchasing and usage patterns of large enterprises which generate over $1 billion in annual revenue and deploy wireless applications.

Access Co., a global provider of mobile content delivery and Internet Access software, and PalmSource, provider of Palm OS, a leading operating system powering next generation phones and mobile devices, today announced they have signed a definitive agreement for Access to acquire PalmSource in an all-cash transaction valued at USD $18.50 per share of PalmSource common stock, or approximately USD $324.3 million. Access' USD $18.50 per share offer represents an 83% premium for PalmSource stockholders based on the market closing price of USD $10.09 on September 8, 2005.

With the recent popularity of the iPod and iTunes service, Motorola looked to Apple when designing a music phone. Planned to be released exclusively through Cingular Wireless, the new ROKR E1 features software that allows it to play songs purchased at Apple's iTunes website.

Overall satisfaction performance with wireless service providers has decreased 10 percent over 2004, the biggest year-over-year change since the study's inception, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2005 U.S. Wireless Regional Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Study(SM) released today.
