Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion (RIM), today introduced the BlackBerry 7130e, the first BlackBerry handset that takes advantage of Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service on the company's Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network. Coupled with Verizon Wireless' new BroadbandAccess Connect pricing, the BlackBerry 7130e delivers all the popular email and data capabilities available with the BlackBerry wireless platform and can also serve as a modem for customers who want to use the device to connect their laptop with Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service.

RadioShack and Skype, the Global Internet Communications Company, today announced an agreement to distribute Skype-certified hardware and software in approximately 3,500 RadioShack stores. This makes RadioShack the first U.S. retailer to offer this new Internet phone service.

Alltel and Midwest Wireless Holdings today announced they have entered into a definitive agreement for Alltel to purchase Midwest Wireless. Alltel expects to gain approximately 400,000 wireless customers in southern Minnesota, northern and eastern Iowa, and western Wisconsin. These markets are contiguous to existing Alltel operations and cover a population of 1.9 million with 850 MHz.

Intel Corporation today announced it is shipping in volume the industry's first 90-nanometer (nm) multi-level cell (MLC) NOR flash memory device. The new Intel StrataFlash Cellular Memory (M18) delivers faster performance, higher density and lower power consumption than the previous 130nm version to meet the increasing demand for feature-rich cell phones equipped with cameras, color screens, Web browsing and video.

Cingular Wireless and Firefly Mobile, Inc. today announced the availability of the Firefly phone, a pioneering mobile phone designed specifically for kids ages 12 and under. Cingular is the first national U.S. carrier to launch this unique voice-only phone.
