Fandango, the nation's largest movie ticket provider, is expanding its service further into the mobile arena by adding Cingular to its roster of cellular partners.
Earlier this month Fandango, which relied solely on selling tickets through the Internet, began migrating from PCs by partnering with Sprint Nextel offering movie ticketing and information and movie-related text-messaging.

Movie theater owners are considering asking federal authorities for permission to install cell phone jammers in cinemas to stop annoying conversations during films. After coming off three straight years of declining admissions, industry leaders are looking for ways to win back crowds, including ways to silence cell phones, from sweeps by ushers to funny fake movie trailers urging viewers to shut off phones.

Verizon Communications has informally approached Vodafone Group to purchase the company's 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless. Under pressure amid AT&T's buyout of BellSouth for complete control of Cingular, Verizon has offered $40 billion to acquire the remaining shares.
"We have made our interest in acquiring Vodafone's stake in Verizon Wireless clear," a Verizon source said. "The ball is now in Vodafone's court."

Sprint today announced two new plans that would allow its customers to make or receive unlimited calls between their cell phone and a pre-designated home or office number, regardless of their wireline carrier, without deducting minutes from their wireless service plans.
The consumer option costs $5 per month, and business customers with a rate plan of $49.99 or higher could add it for $8 per month.

TiVo and Verizon Wireless announced today an agreement that will allow TiVo subscribers to remotely schedule television recording using a Verizon mobile phone. Called TiVo Mobile, the new innovation will allow TiVo subscribers to schedule DVR recordings and access related entertainment information from the convenience of their mobile handsets. Cingular Wireless today announced the launch of on-demand video streaming service. Starting at $20 a month, subscribers can watch video clips from Cartoon Network, CNN, ESPN, and NBC among others. The service will use Cingular's high-speed UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) 3G data network, which is currently available in 16 cities.
