AT&T announced an agreement to buy BellSouth for $67 billion. AT&T currently owns 60 percent of Cingular, the No. 1 wireless carrier, while BellSouth owns the remaining 40 percent. As part of the deal, AT&T would assume full control of Cingular.

Research In Motion Limited (RIM) and NTP today announced they have settled the long-running patent dispute, averting a possible court-ordered shutdown of the BlackBerry system and a disruption of wireless service for millions of users.
RIM agreed to pay $612.5 million to resolve claims that its hand-held phone and e-mail device infringed on patents held by a Virginia company.

Featuring the futuristic look of Motorola SLVR L7 on Cingular, the SLVR L6 offers an even thinner profile at just under 11 mm.
