Cell phone noise could soon be a thing of the past. TechnoConcepts today filed two patent applications for new inventions which virtually eliminates background noise in cellular and other communications devices.
These inventions make it possible for a cell phone user to be in an area with very loud background noise, yet to be heard clearly by the listener. The user will also be able to hear more clearly because the background noise is also eliminated in the caller's phone.

LG Electronics has filed a patent for a "drawer-type" cell phone, similar to a slider form factor, but with the addition of a gear system configured to activate the slide and cover while simultaneously extending the antenna.
In an effort to improve usability, LG designed the drawer phone to open and close with only a simple touch, extending and withdrawing the antenna, while latching and unlatching a small magnet that holds it shut.
According to the patent application, current bar-type mobile phones have structural shortcomings due to their compact size. The distance between the speaker and microphone is much shorter than the distance from the ear to the mouth. Clamshells try to improve function but are often difficult to open one-handed.
The drawer-type phone attempts to solve both these problems by providing users one-touch convenience within a compact yet extendable form, plus improved reception from an external antenna (when in use) with the clean look of a internal antenna (when idle).
Additionally, the drawer cover includes a transparent window to allow users to view the LCD beneath when the phone is closed, also acting as a screen protector from scratches that may occur.
LG hasn't released information on when, or if, it will manufacture a drawer-type phone.

Extending the highly acclaimed Sony Ericsson Walkman phone series, the W810i is the newest flagship device to incorporate the popular MP3 music software.
Through USB 2.0, consumers can load their CD collection to the phone, using the provided Disc2Phone music management software. Stored on Memory Stick Pro Duo cards, approximately 150 music tracks (the equivalent of around 15 full length CDs) can be loaded on the included 512 MB card. Current cards are up to 2 GB in size.

Samsung Electronics has developed a method for writing or drawings in a cell phone using an electronic pen and a projected virtual screen.
Current cell phone numeric keypads only enable users to input characters or numbers and problems arise, especially with foreign languages, when more combinations require repeated key presses.

Sprint today introduced a new service to help parents use a phone to pinpoint the location of a child on a map. Tracked via cell phone, parents can also program the service to automatically send them a text message at a specific time each day to confirm the children have arrived at home or in school.
Sprint's new Family Locator service shows data such as street addresses where the child is close to and the estimated accuracy of the reading, which could range from a radius of 2 yards around the child to a radius of hundreds of yards.

Helio, the mobile venture of SK Telecom and EarthLink, said today it has agreed to put a link to Yahoo!'s Web search engine directly on its cell phone screens to make it easier to surf the Web on its devices.
Helio hopes to pick up customers in the crowded U.S. wireless market by targeting its services specifically at tech-savvy young adults.
Through this relationship, Helio customers will be able to access Yahoo! services such as Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports and more on Helio's 3G services:
- Yahoo! Search - Helio and Yahoo! are partnering to offer access to Yahoo! search from the Helio device home screen that combines Helio's premium mobile content. Members will also be able to use Yahoo! Shortcuts, a quick way to get useful information such as local restaurants, movie showtimes, sports scores, weather, and stock quotes.

Cingular today announced plans to sell ringtones from bands that put their music on MySpace.com, hoping to boost revenue, customer loyalty, and help its image among young people.
Cingular's Mobile Music Studio will offer unsigned artists and bands on MySpace the tools needed to turn their self-produced music into ringtones, helping artists generate exposure and excitement for their music.

Yahoo! Go for Mobile will integrate a full range of Yahoo!'s leading products into a single, comprehensive experience for BlackBerry users. From the Yahoo! Go for Mobile icon, BlackBerry users will have access to Yahoo! services, including real-time access to Yahoo!'s community, information and content services.
BlackBerry users will also be able to get real-time delivery of email sent to their Yahoo! Mail accounts. Disney introduced a wireless phone service designed for children but with parents' concerns in mind. The new service would allow parents to control how their children used their mobile phones and even pinpoint their location through a built-in global positioning system.
