Samsung today launched the SCH-W200 in Korea, the first commercially available HSDPA phone for consumers in the market.
The SCH-W200 slider uses next-generation HSDPA technology to transmit audio and video data at speeds of 1.8 Mbps, allowing users to enjoy a wide range of high quality multimedia including video phone calls, music, and movies.

Palm today announced the Treo 700p, the first CDMA-based smartphone to offer EV-DO broadband connectivity.
Soon to be offered by Sprint and Verizon Wireless, the Treo 700p combines the award-winning hardware design of the Treo 700w smartphone with Palm OS software to stream mobile content such as live TV, movie clips, and audio from radio stations, as well as training videos or company communications.

Apple Computer is getting ready to enter the cell phone market with a handset built with iPod music player functionality, reported Japanese news agency Nikkei.
The highlight of the new cell phone will feature the ability to directly download songs from Apple's iTunes Music Store. Initially required to connect to personal computers, early next year, the iTunes Music Store will unveil a new service that allows users to download songs directly to cell phones.

Building upon the popularity of the 6101, Nokia recently released the 6103 for T-Mobile, a similar device but adding Bluetooth technology.

Sprint and Cingular today announced expanded roaming agreements with rival Alltel.
The Sprint and Alltel 10-year agreement is effective July 1, 2006, and encompasses CDMA voice, data and EV-DO high-speed mobile data services.
Alltel also said that it had also expanded a roaming agreement with Cingular Wireless, a venture of AT&T Inc. and BellSouth Corp. until 2012.

Samsung today unveiled the X820, the world's thinnest phone with a profile of 6.9 mm and weighing only 66 g.
Extremely durability and lightweight, the X820 is manufactured from fiberglass-infused plastic. Underneath, Samsung's Smart Surface Mounting Technology (SSMT) compresses features to pack in maximum functionality.
Capturing specials moments with the built-in 2.0-megapixel camera, the X820 can also give presentations with an integrated document viewer. Cell phones with hard disks will significantly cut into sales of MP3 players, a study released Thursday by ABI Research claims.
Cell phones offering generous data storage, enabled by small hard drives with ever-greater capacities, may soon allow the cellular handset to rival or surpass the portable MP3 player as the mass market mobile music device of choice.
At present, portable MP3 players still lead in their memory capabilities: high-end devices can hold as much as 30 or 60 GB.
