Today Nokia unveiled two new CDMA handsets, each of which bring megapixel-plus cameras and Bluetooth wireless technology to the mid-range segment. The Nokia 6275i integrates a high-resolution 2.0-megapixel camera, while the Nokia 2875i phone includes a high-quality 1.3-megapixel camera. Both new devices are expected to be available during the 4th quarter of 2006.

Nokia and Siemens today announced that they will combine their telecommunications network equipment units in a joint venture, a move to help them compete with market leader Ericsson.
The new venture, called Nokia Siemens Networks, which combines Nokia's Networks unit and Siemens' carrier-related operations, had 2005 pro forma revenues of 15.8 billion euros and 60,000 employees. Based on current market share data, it will be the second largest company in mobile infrastructure, second in services, third in fixed infrastructure, and the third largest in the overall telecommunications infrastructure market.

Wireless over-the-air (OTA) music services in the U.S. could have more than 50 million users and generate more than a billion dollars in revenue by 2010, according to research firm IDC.
Although adoption remains low today, IDC forecasts OTA will be driven by the convenience of buying music online and the music industry's opportunity to reach consumers through new distribution channels.

Energizer announced today the launch of rapid charging devices that supply power to cell phones.
The battery-driven devices, known as Energi To Go, will include a two-battery cell phone charger and a four-battery power pack for audio and gaming devices.
According to market research group Roper ASW, 20 percent of consumers lose cell phone power at least once a week. The charger allows consumers to place a call within 30 seconds of activating Energi To Go. Multimedia phones may require several minutes to activate.

The prevalence of mobile phone theft and other forms of mobile phone crime has become a widespread problem, according to a new survey conducted by Juniper Research, with 70 percent of young consumers surveyed associated in some way with a victim of mobile theft.

A group of the world's mobile operators and handset makers said today they are joining together to develop an open-source Linux-based operating system that could to be used in phones by the end of 2007.
Mobile network operators Vodafone and NTT DoCoMo and handset makers Motorola, Samsung, NEC and Panasonic, said they would form an independent not-for-profit group to share the costs and speed up mobile software and handsets and cut the number of operating platforms on the market.

Nokia today reveals the result of its recent collaboration with Central Saint Martins (CSM) College of Art and Design at the Future of Mobile Design exhibition.
For six months 25 Industrial Design students created concepts for a premium device capable of providing 4 or 5G multimedia services up to the year 2015.
The students worked for a cash prize and the chance to work side-by-side with Nokia's design team during a summer placement at the Nokia design studios near London. The winning design was also made into a Nokia made dummy handset for the specially-hosted exhibition in London's Air Gallery this week.
Although technology was a primary focus, students followed unique routes.
