Sony Ericsson today announced the W595a Walkman phone, a music handset featuring innovations for music and media.
The W595a can store and play over 1900 tunes in the 2GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) or share sounds through the built in stereo speakers. Sony Ericsson today unveiled the W302i, an affordable 10.5mm slim, aluminium front handset with a 2.0-megapixel camera, FM radio, TrackID and 512MB Memory Stick Micro (M2).
Offering an integrated MP3 player, users can play songs randomly or create playlists. A built-in FM radio lets listeners tune in on the road. Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced Friday it was cutting 2,000 jobs worldwide after reporting a 97 percent drop in second quarter earnings due to difficult market conditions and the global economic slowdown.
Company spokeswoman Lisa Canning in London said the company would cut 2,000 jobs "within the next 12 months" as part of an effort to reduce operational costs by 300 million euros ($470 million) per year.

Motorola sued a former executive for allegedly violating a non-compete agreement by taking a job as head of global iPhone sales for Apple and helping Apple hire two other former Motorola employees.
The suit was filed Thursday in an Illinois circuit court in Cook County against Mike Fenger, who quit Motorola in March as senior vice president of mobile devices for Europe, Middle East and Africa to join Apple.

Opera Software today released its Opera Mobile 9.5 beta, allowing users to view the entire Web page and instantly recognize websites.

Top telecommunications regulators for the European Union are placing limits on the cost of international texts, the bloc's executive arm said today. Mobile phone operators will be forced to slash by roughly two-thirds the cost of sending a text message while traveling between European Union countries.
EU Telecoms Commissioner Viviane Reding said she wanted to see roaming fees for text messages fall by up to 70 percent. She said she will put forward rules in October to cap charges.

Apple today announced it has sold over one million iPhone 3Gs and users have downloaded more than 10 million applications, just three days after its launch.
The iPhone 3G is now available in 21 countries - Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the U.S. - and will go on sale in France on July 17.
