Move Over RAZR, Make Way for the Motorola SLVR L7

Thu Jan 20, 2005 12:40 pm

Two years ago, top designers at Motorola began a secret project - to develop a phone the size of a credit card, featuring all the latest multimedia features including a camera, video recorder, and MP3 player.

After months of refinement it was released last November accompanied by a furious barrage of ad campaigns; outperforming Motorola's initial sales estimate of 750,000 units. Two months later and over 2 million RAZRs sold; Motorola has wasted little time designing a family of Razr-like handsets.

During the quarterly earnings announcement this week, Motorola gave a small peek into its plans to expand the RAZR line-up including an upcoming model, the SLVR L7 (Pronounced Sliver) - a block form factor of the RAZR V3. Still in development, no official press or photos have been released, but plans of a formal announcement are set to take place later this year.

Since the immense success of the RAZR V3, Motorola plans to continue and expand on what has been successful in the past.

Lets just hope they workout all the lovely bugs and erros that are casual amongst all their other phones from the past. But hey a phone the size of a credit card does sorta sound nice yet extremely expensive.

I wonder if the other manufacturers will catch on and start making similar products...

While I'm not sure the rest of the world, the Razr was huge in the States. I think the thin phone is still a fad though and will die out shortly once it becomes mainstream...
