Internet security giant Symantec has released a free anti-virus download to protect Symbian smartphones, after recent outbreaks of the MMS-transmitted CommWarrior and Bluetooth-based Cabir viruses.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said its software, called Symantec Mobile Security, is designed to work with management systems, so admins can wirelessly connect to install updates. In addition, smartphones add new virus protection and product updates from the Symantec's servers or from an internal network. Symantec said its software supports Symbian Series 60 and Series 80 devices. The beta release can be downloaded from its Web site.
