Nokia CEO Jorma Ollila was criticized by shareholders claiming poor clamshell designs resulted in falling market share. Struggling most of 2004, Nokia missed out on camera and flip phones as it cut prices due to competition.
"The style of the current models is not competitive, although they may be technically. They are clumsy and awkward," said Finnish pensioner Aarno Lutz. "Siemens has good stylish models... Samsung is a strong player in the market, too," he added, drawing moderate applause from the audience.
Brushing it aside Ollila said, "Our market share last year of 33-34 percent is the best evidence that we are on the right track. We are still frontrunners in many ways in design." He added Nokia planned to launch 40 phones in 2005.

Nokia never did have a very strong clamshell portfolio. But then again, except for North American, flip phones aren't very popular.

They tried a few times but failed miserably. Leave the clamshells to the experts at Motorola.
