Motorola today announced the launch of the RAZR for Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA). As the second handset in Motorola's growing portfolio of fixed-mobile convergence devices, the RAZR for UMA joins the Motorola V560 available on British Telecom's Fusion service.
The RAZR for UMA retains all the features that proved popular with the award-winning original version of the handset. In addition, the RAZR for UMA model will deliver constant 'on the move' communications by making it possible to seamlessly connect between mobile networks and landlines using Class 1 Bluetooth. Imagine travelling home from work, the phone rings and your conversation is in full swing. As you walk into your house the call is seamlessly passed to your landline without the inconvenience of changing handsets. It's so simple: one call, one chic handset, one bill.
"The convergence of fixed and mobile communications is an exciting and important step in Motorola's vision for seamless mobility. Cellular technology gave us the ability to talk to each other wirelessly. Seamless mobility takes communications beyond this, seamlessly linking people, information and devices while we move around our everyday lives," said Greg Estell, VP and general manager, Motorola Devices Europe. "We intend to be a driving force in this market by developing a range of devices that will ensure consumers get the most from seamless communications. By bringing our award winning RAZR handset design to this market, we are offering the best possible experience combined with the BT Fusion service."
Steve Andrews, BT chief of mobility and convergence said, "BT is committed to delivering a seamless communications experience to its customers, whether at home, at the office or out and about. To realise this goal it is crucial that we have advanced devices and handsets that can give us the best of both worlds - the convenience and features of mobile and the quality and bandwidth of the fixed line networks. We are delighted that Motorola is continuing to grow its portfolio of fixed-mobile convergence devices, and that it has chosen to enhance its premier handset, the RAZR for UMA, to support the BT Fusion service. This is a very attractive mobile handset, giving our customers more choice as well as the benefits offered by seamless mobility through the BT Fusion service."
