GoTV Networks, an on-demand mobile television provider, announced that it will broadcast coverage of Live 8, the worldwide concert event created to raise awareness of poverty in Africa, on its new alternative music channel, ALTitude. The broadcast will be available beginning on July 2, 2005 at 1 p.m. EDT to coincide with the concert kick off.
GoTV's Live 8 round-the-clock coverage will include shows in London, Philadelphia, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Johannesburg, Tokyo and Toronto, as well as behind-the-scenes artist interviews. Musicians, including Elton John, Madonna, Paul McCartney and U2, will come together just days before world leaders will gather at the G8 summit in Gleneagles, United Kingdom to discuss issues in Africa."Live 8 is one of the most important music events of our time," said Rick Friedman, vice president, news and production, GoTV Networks. "By providing continuous Live 8 coverage to mobile users in the United States, GoTV will allow people everywhere to experience this landmark concert series." GoTV Networks' Live 8 offering comes at the same time as the networks' launch of its alternative music channel, ALTitude. The on-demand program covers the best trends in alternative, indie and new music including video clips, interviews, music news, record reviews, artist spotlights on cutting edge bands, and an exclusive chart based on peer-to-peer downloading activity. GoTV Networks' premium video package, GoTV, and Diva, GoTV's women's channel, will also offer Live 8 content. GoTV's on-demand television programming delivers, direct to the mobile phone, headline news, real-time sports scores, entertainment, music, and other rich audiovisual content from brands including ABC News, ABC Entertainment, FOX Sports and iFilm, as well as original programming produced in the GoTV studios specifically for mobile phone users. GoTV is available on Sprint and Nextel and comes pre-loaded on Nextel's Motorola handsets.
