Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components, today introduced an enhanced 0201 surface mount ferrite bead. The advanced BLM03BB series, designed to meet Federal Communications Commission (FCC) electro-magnetic interference (EMI) regulations and minimize attenuation in high speed signals, is ideal for Bluetooth and WLAN modules, Power Amplifier Modules for cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), laptops and other applications with limited board space.
As portable electronic devices continue to downsize to smaller and thinner packages, the demand for reduced case size components continues to increase. Thus, Murata designed the tiny 0201 sized (0.6 mm x 0.3 mm) BLM03BB series to feed consumers' appetites for compact equipment while providing design engineers EMI filtering. This feature is particularly important because it enables manufacturers to meet government regulations regarding noise suppression for high current power lines in limited board space products. These FCC requirements were needed to prevent an increase in EMI from the dramatic influx of equipment such as computers and fax machines for both home and office use.
Murata's surface mount ferrite bead series also reduces attenuation to the desired high speed signal through sharp impedance characteristics. The impedance values range from 10 ohms up to 120 ohms. Murata's BLM03BB series is unique as it is suitable for higher speed signals when compared to conventional 0201 ferrite beads.
"Murata's design savvy allows us to produce miniaturized ferrite beads that surpass traditional component technology," said Deryl Kimbro, product manager EMI filters and chip inductors for Murata Electronics North America. "By offering a tiny package with numerous benefits both manufacturers and their customers gain."
