Sprint TV Live Launches With 19 New Channels

Mon Sep 26, 2005 12:53 pm

Sprint today announced the launch of Sprint TV Live, the newest addition to the Emmy Award-winning Sprint PCS Vision Multimedia Services. Sprint TV Live offers Sprint PCS Vision subscribers channels of continuous broadcast TV content from a variety of popular television stations such as FOX Sports, ABC News Now, The Learning Channel (TLC) and Discovery. Sprint TV Live is available nationwide and streams at up to 15 frames per second.

With Sprint TV Live, customers now can watch up-to-the-minute coverage of breaking news on FOX News Channel Live, check in on their favorite NFL team with exclusive video highlights from NFL Network, or see the latest music videos from California Music Channel (CMC), all in a user-friendly, TV-like interface on their Sprint PCS Vision Multimedia Phone.

"Sprint leads the industry in offering customers access to both live broadcast television and a breadth of entertaining and informative video clips from the top brands, all with unlimited usage pricing," said Dale Knoop, general manager of multimedia services for Sprint. "With the launch of Sprint TV Live, Sprint continues its legacy of leadership in the multimedia space and strengthens its position within the mobile data market."

Sprint TV Live can be accessed through the Sprint Media Player on all Sprint multimedia-capable handsets for $9.99 a month. The service is on Channel 9 and will appear under the category heading Sprint TV once purchased. The Sprint Media Player can be accessed on the handset through the main menu.

Sprint TV Live channels are continuously streamed to the phone on the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network, providing a high-quality viewing experience and eliminating the need to download and store video files on the phone.

At launch, Sprint TV Live will offer 19 channels, including: ABC, FOX Sports, FOX News Channel Live, NFL Network, Discovery, Discovery Kids, Discovery En Espanol, Comedy Time, TLC, The Weather Channel, CNET, CMC, CMC Beat and CSPAN, plus many more.

In the past year, Sprint has released eight multimedia-capable handsets from Sanyo, Samsung and LG. Sprint also has enhanced channel selection, now offering over 31 channels of continuous and on-demand audio and video content.

Sprint TV and Sprint TV Live are both powered by mobile TV pioneer MobiTV, Inc. Sprint and MobiTV were recently awarded a 2005 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development from The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

That actually sounds pretty nice. $10 is not too bad, either. I wonder what it does to your batter life, though.

Probably drains it pretty quick. I don't think I'll be using mobile TV until the screens get larger.

It's cheaper than VCAST... that's for sure.
