Skype Sells Ringtones

Fri Sep 30, 2005 3:44 am

Skype today launched Personalise Skype, letting Skype's 55 million callers show off their individuality with sounds, ringtones and pictures. Qpass, whose software provides the fastest path to profit in digital media commerce, will fully manage the Personalise Skype storefront, including content sourcing and management.

The Personalise Skype service allows Skype users with the latest version of Skype for Windows 1.4 to download pre-recorded voice clips and sounds to use as a ringtone or to customize any of the default sound events in Skype. There is also a wide variety of pictures and avatars. Today's launch continues Skype's expansion of its premium services following its recent announcement of Skype's Voice Services Program which will offer callers free and chargeable content over Skype. Personalise Skype will join Skype's other premium service offerings which boasts more than 2 million customers.

"Skype is committed to providing a simple, reliable and friendly communication tool. The launch of Personalise Skype now gives our users the opportunity to express themselves by customizing their experience while using Skype," said James Bilefield, Vice President of Business Development, of Skype. "Qpass was highly responsive and able to rapidly integrate its software with our platform in a matter of weeks, allowing us to quickly bring these premium services to market."

The Qpass platform manages hundreds of thousands of content applications and services across mobile, VoIP, and WiFi networks. Qpass provides software solutions that enable communications providers to efficiently market and deliver digital goods, from managing the subscribers' purchasing experience through delivery, billing and after-sale customer care.

"Consumers are increasingly looking for ways to express their personality and we're proud to work alongside a pioneering innovator such as Skype," said Chase Franklin, CEO of Qpass. "This partnership allows Qpass to extend its offering to a massive global market and facilitate a greater depth of involvement for Skype users worldwide."
