Sprint and NBC Universal Digital Media announced today that Sprint customers can now get their laughs on demand with access to video segments from "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on their Sprint Power Vision phones as part of the Emmy Award-winning Sprint TV service.
Fans of the top-rated late-night show will now be able to instantly access the best of Jay's previous night's monologues and favorite "Tonight Show" comedy sketches such as "Jaywalking," "Headlines" and "The Fruitcake Lady." Two new "Tonight Show" features will be added daily and a total of four will be available at all times.
"NBC Mobile has always been a leader in this space with its original news and entertainment programming," said Deborah Reif, president, NBC Universal Digital Media. "Today's announcement reinforces our commitment to empowering consumers and providing our content on whatever platform they chose and available to them whenever they want it."
"'The Tonight Show' under Jay's reign has had a number of firsts: first in HD and, of course, a ratings streak of first place for 10 years. This arrangement with Sprint represents yet another groundbreaking event for the show and NBC. And it bodes especially well for comedy fans who can catch Jay's timely monologue anytime they want," added Jeff Zucker, president, NBC Universal Television Group.
NBC Mobile produces an average of 20-25, 2-4 minute short-form programs daily, including breaking news, original newscasts, original features and in-depth stories produced especially for the mobile phone. Original newscasts are produced specifically for the mobile phone and anchored by respected NBC journalists such as Brian Williams, John Siegenthaler and Lester Holt. These newscasts originate from a variety of NBC News bureaus including London, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and soon from Tel Aviv.
"Sprint has led the industry in offering content-rich information and entertainment applications that are changing the way consumers use their Sprint phones. In 2003, we were first to offer live TV and streaming video clips on a mobile phone. Today, Sprint TV offers 30 channels of live and exclusive streaming news, sports and entertainment programming," said Dale Knoop, general manager of multimedia services for Sprint. "With today's addition from NBC, if Sprint customers miss seeing Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, they'll be able to see the highlights right on their Sprint phone when and where they want."
On Oct. 31, 2005, Sprint announced two new multimedia phones that will provide an enhanced experience for customers viewing live and streaming content via the Sprint Power Vision Network. The Tonight Show video clips will be available as part of Sprint TV Ultimate, which includes live and streaming content from several major news and entertainment brands.
