Cingular Wireless and MobiTV, the global leader in live mobile television and digital radio services, today announced the availability of the MobiRadio service for Cingular subscribers. Now, for the first time in the US market, wireless customers can listen to more than 40 channels of high quality commercial free digital music streamed directly to their mobile phones using the programming expertise of Music Choice.
MobiRadio will offer dozens of interruption-free audio music channels programmed by Music Choice, the premier music network. The channel line-up features a wide variety of popular music genres, including Urban, Rock, and Country, in addition to Electronica, Reggae, Jazz, and Classical. The Music Choice channels are updated regularly so subscribers hear a never ending stream of great music from both established and emerging artists.
Cingular has a long history in leading the convergence of wireless and music. The introduction of MobiRadio marks one of several Cingular music milestones, including:
- Being the first wireless provider to offer authentic music content from all major record labels. (March 2004)
- Introducing the first-of-its-kind Cingular Sounds program, which debuts popular artists' music as ringtones before the songs can be heard anywhere else. (April 2005)
- Launching the first wireless phone with iTunes (September 2005)
- Becoming the first to offer Billboard Music Application (September 2005)
MobiRadio on Cingular is a rich consumer application which displays album art, song and artist information during playback. In the coming months, Cingular and MobiTV expect to expand the services offered through MobiRadio by integrating the ability to instantly purchase related ringtones and other associated content as the music plays directly from the customer's Cingular phone.
MobiRadio on Cingular is currently available on the Nokia 6620, Sony Ericsson S710 and Z500a, but will be available on additional handsets soon. The cost is $6.99 a month plus kilobyte usage. For the best value, Cingular recommends customers consider purchasing one of its MEdia Net packages.

Seems like a creative twist to a music store.

an expensive twist as well. $7 for the service and $20 for unlimited media net (assuming you don't want an enormous data charge), you're looking at a higher monthly fee than normal sat radio. I think I'll pass on this one.

true, it costs more than satellite radio.. but u dont have to be in the car or house to hear it.... you can sit at the mall, in the park, or wherever and you'll have radio...
I think it's worth it if you would use it.

Sounds Great! Since I already have the unlimited mediaNet package and an s710 phone, I'll try this out as soon as I'm back in the USA. Hopefully it will work better than the mobiTV (which was way too slow on a previous cell phone).

yea, it's better than mobitv because it doesn't have video to transmit, only audio... which is what the tv did on the 710 anyways lol
