Adding the hottest phones and electronic gadgets to holiday wish lists is no new trend; however, if current sales and spending trends in the mobile industry continue, this year's holiday shopping season may be the busiest and most successful yet.

Recent data from The NPD Group, the market information leader for the wireless industry, indicates consumer cell phone sales reached 31.6 million units in the third quarter of 2005. Representing a seven percent growth over second quarter sales volume of 29.6 million units, this number increased more than 30 percent compared to the same period in 2004. NPD estimates total third quarter 2005 consumer sales will be slightly more than $2 billion.

"With the rise of music and video phones, and the continuing popularity of camera phones, multimedia capabilities are taking a leading role in cell phone selection," said Allen Tsai, founder of Mobiledia.com. "However, not every phone is right for every individual. From business, fashion and music to camera phone capabilities, our holiday hits list features our favorites in categories for every user."

The Mobiledia Top 10 Cell Phone Picks for 2005 list features:

1. Motorola RAZR V3c
Motorola combines the sophistication of the RAZR with CDMA technology in its RAZR V3c. Don't be fooled by its tiny exterior - the model features powerful technology, including a 1.3-megapixel camera, EV-DO technology for video-on-demand and broadband-like connections and Bluetooth wireless technology.

2. Sony Ericsson Z520a
While the Sony Ericsson Z520a is directed towards the image-conscious consumer, its fashion sense does not diminish its technical capabilities. As a quad-band phone, the Z520a works on GSM networks worldwide. Lined with flashing perimeter lights combined with music alerts, incoming calls never go unnoticed. The Z520a also contains a 4x digital zoom VGA camera, supports infrared and Bluetooth connectivity and Mobile Java 3D gaming.

3. Samsung SCH-A950
The Samsung SCH-A950 is full of multimedia capabilities, combining camera, video and music functions. Equipped with an MP3 player, music lovers can use the SCH-A950's sleek jog dial to scroll through their playlists, or use the keys on the exterior to conveniently stop, start and skip around to find the tune to fit the mood.

4. Sony Ericsson W600i
The Sony Ericsson W600i Walkman phone is the phone for music lovers on the move, featuring an advanced digital music player and FM radio. The swivel-action W600i has a 1.8-inch color screen for the best possible video viewing and gaming experience, and dedicated gaming buttons for fast and action-packed 3D gaming on the go. In addition, W600i has a built-in 1.3-megapixel camera with video recording and digital camera menus.

5. RIM Blackberry 7105t
The RIM BlackBerry 7105t is the successor to the 7100t, adding enhanced Yahoo! Mail access allowing customers to manage their personal and corporate e-mail with real-time push-based delivery. The BlackBerry 7105t also puts top-of-the-line features, such as speakerphone and Bluetooth technology into a sleek and stylish handset.

6. Motorola PEBL U6
Created with a smooth oval form, the Motorola PEBL U6 elevates mobile design to a new level. An innovative dual-hinge mechanism opens and closes the device with one swift and delicate motion. Its sophisticated look and feel is complemented by discreet high-tech capabilities including video capture and playback and Bluetooth wireless technology.

7. Samsung MM-A940 (SPH-A940)
The Samsung MM-A940 (SPH-A940) is a phone for the camera-lover, featuring a brilliant 262K-color LCD and 2.0-megapixel digital camera with 2x optical zoom, auto focus, multi-shot and brightness adjustments. Users also have the flexibility to either save their photos or videos using the phone's internal memory, or store them on a removable TransFlash memory card.

8. LG VX9800
The LG VX9800 uses advanced wireless technology and design to offer a complete multimedia entertainment experience along with the latest in wireless phone communication. Users can stream news and sports video highlights on Verizon Wireless' VCAST service, download and watch VCAST video clips from the hottest names in entertainment, or listen to their favorite songs through the phone's MP3 player and stereo speakers.

9. Motorola E815
The Motorola E815 delivers premium wireless broadband connectivity via EV-DO technology with video-on-demand capability, a 1.3-megapixel camera, MP3 player and brilliant color screen. And thanks to Bluetooth wireless technology, fast downloading, optional storage via a TransFlash memory expansion slot, speaker-independent name and digit dialing, and advanced messaging, the E815 features an incomparable mobile package.

10. Nokia 6102
The Nokia 6102 is a flip phone with an easy-to-use menu structure. The built-in VGA camera with a dedicated button takes colorful videos and pictures that can be shared via MMS or uploaded to an online photo album or printing service. With two bright color displays, the Nokia 6102 can be personalized with animated wallpapers and screensavers.

You're kidding, right?

The RAZR??? It doesn't even play MP3's...

The ROKR didn't even get mentioned. That's sad. I guess it's like the Oscars. There's the films that everyone liked and there's the films that the "industry" liked. Same with phones. I'm sadly disapointed here.

It's the RAZR V3c, not the RAZR V3. The V3c plays MP3s.

No one liked the ROKR because it had a 100 song limit. That's why Cingular can't give them away.

You can look at it as 100 songs or 7 hours of music. Either way I know the ROKR flailed sales-wise. I don't get it. I have one and adore it. It's really a great phone. Oh well.

I think the LG Muziq should've been one of the mist 10 popular phones, it isn't the best phone, but a pretty good one!
