Cingular customers will be able to buy ringtones of finalists' performances for $2.49 each. Ringtones will also be made during subsequent "American Idol" performance shows this season.
After selected performances from Tuesday's shows, Cingular customers will be able to buy ringtones for $2.49 each, the very next day. During each subsequent performance show this season, a high-quality recording of the remaining finalists' songs will be digitally remastered into a ringtone overnight, pending publisher clearance. Typically, it takes traditional recorded music months to go from recording to distribution.
Customers will also be able to browse and buy Live Idol Ringtones from past performances for this season. In previous seasons, customers were able to buy ringtones of the "American Idol" theme song and many of the songs featured on the show by the original artists.
Another way to capitalize on cell phones. I personally thought the text message voting was a waste of money. It's something outrageous like 50 cents per vote, and it's not like it makes a difference.

Actually it costs .10 if you have no text plan at all and nothing if you do have one.(just one message) Personally I thought it was a great idea to bring in money for Cingular. The more money they make, hopefully will open the door for better service and more features. Go Cingular! Capitalize away! Oh and by the way... who said voting ever made a difference in anything? (presidential election 2000)

I am NOT a Cingular customer, but in regard to "they will do anything to make money..." That is why a business is a business. Cingular has capitalized on an opportunity which, yes, does make them more money. However, as mentioned before, it does also open opportunities to continue to move forward in providing better service to customers. Moreso, it opens more job opportunities for people. Sure, there is someone in upper management getting an unbelievably large bonus for this, but I wouldn't trade places with that person because I know they've paid a price I'm most likely not willing to pay. Still, there are many people there who would without a job if it weren't for the growth of businesses.
NOTE: I owned a business for the love of what I do, but because I wasn't in it "to make money," I no longer have that business. What good did that do?
Kudos to Cingular for taking hold of the opportunity. Pass on the blessings; pass on the opportunities... then more kudos!
