Sony Ericsson Z525a Push-To-Talk Phone Unveiled

Tue Apr 04, 2006 10:15 am
Sony Ericsson today announced the Z525a, successor to the popular Z520a. Adding Push-To-Talk functionality, the Z525a offers a fun and easy way to stay in touch in many people at once, such as connecting a small group of colleagues working in various locations or friends and family in different places.
The Z525a offers quad-band functionality for GSM access to networks around the world. Bluetooth capability allows consumers to easily connect to a variety of headsets, car kits and other Bluetooth enabled devices. And like its popular predecessor, special lighting effects on the Z525a let users know who is calling. Blue lights around the rim light up in eight different patterns that sync with melodies to match individual callers.
An integrated VGA camera lets consumers save color pictures of their most frequent callers along with their contact details. These pictures are then displayed on the external screen when that person calls. Through MMS, users can also share photos with picture and video messaging capabilities. A simple-to-use Internet browser makes it easy to find nearby restaurants, movies, flights and more.
The Sony Ericsson Z525a will be available in New Blue and starts shipping during Q2 2006.

not much in the way of improvements. im betting the z525a doesnt do as well as the z520a did. the new phones released next quarter are going to blow the z525a out of the water. it'll take more that ptt to compete with 2.0 megapixel cameras, mp3 players, and oh... those ultra-thin phones from moto.

From the pictures, it looks like the camera button on the side was replaced with the PTT button, so perhaps?

Looking for detailed user review of the Sony-Erickson Z525a.....thanks in advance.
I'm trying to decide between the Z525a and the Nokia 6102i which reviews said can be hard to hear on....have to hold it a certain way.
Any problems with the Z525a, I should know about?
I'd like to hear from a user of the Sony Erickson Z525a a detailed review of pros and cons.
Thanks!!!

Purchased the Z525a the day it came out. Believe it was around Christmas sometime in 2005. Sine mine was one of the 1st released it had a manufactured defect. Cingular would not take the phone back unless I paid for shipping of a replacement phone & shippng to send the defective one back. So I held onto it & lived with the problems. Problem was the phone would drop calls but still accumulate minutes being used until you actually pressed end call. Now besides that problem I have lost most of the outer screen details. Onlt 1/2 of the photo shows up. Just yesterday the phone takes about 1 minute to register for every key I enter. Takes forever now to make a lousy phone call. I called cingular again & they still want me to pay for a new phone wether it be the same or a different one. It is still under my 1 year warranty so I should not have to pay for anything. Now I find out my rep is no longer working for cingular. What do I have to do in order to ge a good working phone for free!

What is the point of having PTT? Since you cant talk to anyone outside the Cingular Network its kinda dumb to pay to get minutes when you already get free mobile to mobile? Does anyone know whether or not Cingular will eventually be able to PTT other carriers?

I don't know about Cingular out of NY, but here it's one of the most expensive providers. I've been using T-Mobile for the past 4 years and there has been 100% improvement of the last 1 1/2 years. I switched to PrePaid and my bill is now 1/2 of what it used to be. TMobile is 10 cents a minute and Cingular is 25 cents a minute.
You guys out of NY please post what your rates are. Friends tell me Cingular's Customer Service is near impossible to get satisfaction.
