Samsung Electronics today introduced a new 3.5-inch LCD built from HTSP (Hybrid Touch Screen Panel) technology, allowing manufacturers to design thinner and lighter mobile devices.
With prior touch screen technology requiring an LCD panel to integrate sensor circuitry over top, Samsung's HTSP technology includes all sensor circuitry within. As a result, the new screen is considerably thinner and lighter than existing touch screens, while maintaining a bright, high-contrast image at features QVGA resolution.Samsung produced the touch screen circuitry using the same TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) process currently used for today's mobile device displays. The new panel can be applied to a wide range of portable applications that require a touch screen, such as navigation terminals for vehicles and personal media players (PMPs). Future applications will include smart phones, PDA phones, ultra-mobile PCs and other multimedia mobile products.
