So what's the difference between the D407 and the D357? Looks like the same phone with a new paint job.

So that's it? A crappy VGA camera? What a waste of shelf space...

It also has quad mode instead of being a tri-mode which could make a difference in reception. The camera is nifty too. If the d807 had ptt, it would be the ultimate phone and would definitely beat out the razr.
For all those bluetooth fanatics, it does have bluetooth!!!!

Samsung D407. When you copy your contacts from the Sim Card to the Phone memory you then have duplicate entries for every contact in your contact list. There is presently no fix for this. Samsung and Cingular both told me to just erase the SIM card. Gee, theres great idea! Why would i then need a Sim card? If you want to add custom ring tones and pics to your contacts, they need to be in the phone's memory. Also if you do erase your contacts off of your SIM be prepared for this. There is no way to batch copy the contacts from the phone's memory to the SIM. You need to copy each contact one at a time. That can be a real pain if you have a lot of telephone numbers in your contact list. The phone can batch copy from the SIM to the phone but not from the phone to the SIM. Another issue lies in the text messaging. Everytime you insert punctaution anywhere when you reply text message the cursor returns to the top of the message. If you text a lot, that can be very frustrating. My friend also bought a Sasung D407 and has the same issues. Both Cingular and Samsung were very rude and not helpful at all. I just want everyone to know about these issues so they don't get stuck with a phone that clearly has a software and/or firmware problem.
Besides the above issues, it is a very nice phone. The PTT works great. You do not need to open the lid at all to make a normal phone call or a PTT call. It has voice reconition that is very accurate and a decent quality speakerphone. Also, Cingular does not include a USB cable. The Phone also has bluetooth. Samsung has an app free for download (Samsung PC Studio 3). You can take any mp3 or wav clip and transfer it to your phone via blutooth or usb and use it as a ring tone. Cingular won't tell you this because they want you to keep shelling out 3-$5 for a ring tone and also pay for the bandwidth to download it. Why would you do that when you can buy a whole song for .99 ?
In conclusion, I don't think that i will ever purcahes another Samsung product. They were made aware of the problem and they refuse to do anything about it. The same goes for Cingular. They are both aware that a phone they are selling has a software and/or firemware problem and they just don't care. I forgot to mention that Samsung also told me that if i would like to try and research the problem and fix it myself, i am more than welcome to. The tech rep at Samsung also told me that i should start by contacting their friends in Korea that wrote the firmware. This should tell everyone what kind of companies they are dealing with when it comes to Samsung and Cingular. The Samsung D407 was clearly not ready to go market.
