T-Mobile today began offering a new service to connect parents and kids on their own terms.

By both controlling wireless costs and providing certain unlimited features, kidConnect gives parents peace of mind, while enabling kids to communicate the way they want. T-Mobile's kidConnect provides the following:
- Unlimited calling between parent and child (via unlimited, nationwide mobile-to-mobile calling with other T-Mobile subscribers)
- Unlimited nationwide weekend calling
- 50 nationwide Whenever Minutes per month, the value of which also can be used toward text messages (SMS) and, with a capable handset, instant messages (IM) and picture messages (MMS)
- Ability to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency
For enhanced flexibility, after the 50 nationwide Whenever Minutes allotment (or the corresponding value) is depleted, the account can be replenished (online, by phone or at a T-Mobile retail store) with T-Mobile To Go refill cards; refill minutes do not expire and carry over to subsequent months if not used.
As an additional safeguard, kidConnect has a specially designed (WAP) interface that helps prevent kids from signing up through the handset for particular optional services incurring more than a one-time charge. Available only from T-Mobile, kidConnect helps assure parents that their child's wireless bill will not exceed $19.99 per month.

the only difference here is the MTM after the account is depleted...
a good marketing campaign non the less... I have been reccommending prepaid services for years when customers call and ask for a phone for their child... I alwys tell them prepaid... I have seen too may bills that were in the thousands due to text messaging and ringtone downloads data charges and airtime... with prepaid once the balance is gone no service until you pay... I hope the other carriers do copy this

Prepaid is so popular overseas. I wonder why it hasn't taken hold in the U.S.
