Motorola today announced the MOTOFONE, Motorola's thinnest phone yet. Measuring approximately 9 mm thin, MOTOFONE borrows key elements from Motorola's iconic portfolio and gives them a new twist.
As mobile phone markets continue to expand, the demand for cost-effective, smart but stylish communication keeps increasing. Only two billion of the world's population has made a phone call, and billions more have only just begun to leverage wireless communication. With the MOTOFONE, Motorola will allow these new users to embrace mobile communication with style.
The MOTOFONE offers an intuitive, new interface built on icons and voice versus text. By using images, the device makes it simpler and friendlier for first-time users to navigate, place a call, and retrieve messages. Its large, high contrast screen, powered by our revolutionary ClearVision display, helps eliminate glare from direct sunlight - making it easier to use the phone outdoors, on-the-go.
Featuring the new ClearVision display, MOTOFONE leverages Electrophoretic Display (EPD) technology to provide users with a large, high-contrast screen that is viewable even in bright sunlight. The ClearVision display combined with a flush-fitting keypad and dust-resistant design makes the MOTOFONE sleek and durable in active everyday use.
Designed for even the newest phone users, the MOTOFONE is equipped with a newly redesigned user interface that is easy to learn, easy to use. With voice prompt instructions in local languages, a large readable font size and an icon-based menu, the handset is self-explanatory at every step. For pre-paid customers, the MOTOFONE automatically reports the status of their pre-paid account after each call or message, allowing consumers to stay in control of use and expense.
The sleek design of the MOTOFONE includes polyphonic ringtones, speakerphone and long-lasting battery life. In addition, the device includes a powerful volume to help ensure callers can hear phone conversations and will not miss calls even in a busy marketplace or crowded street.
The MOTOFONE is expected to be available in the second half of 2006 in both GSM and CDMA models.

Well, that's what you get for basing your self-worth on material goods.
Terribly sorry.

This phone is going to be a killer for Motorola. Billions of people out there need cheap phones. Have you seen all the other phones for emerging markets? They're all hideously ugly.

Cheap phones was where Motorola was losing to Nokia the most so this will probably help them reduce the gap.

This is the kind of phone my parents would use.
No bells, whistles, extra useless features.
It takes calls, makes calls. That's all they use their cell phone for.
It'd also be perfect for business, too - not for executives, but for 'average' employees.
My company has several employees that get issued cell phones so they can be reached. The phones are no-frills, basic phones. The Nokia 6030, V180 phones of that ilk.

Think about it where is the GSM market emerging in 3rd world countries and places like china and india etc. if you make like 3,000 dollars a year equivelent in a 3rd world country or a few hundred dollars a year do you think these people would be buying RAZR's and slvr's for half their yearly income. Cheap (real cheap) phones are needed. AND a lot of people like previous posts said people don't want txt messages and all the fancy stuff. why not/ they will probably sell 10's of millions of these phones. as I'm sure other companies base models do.
