Apple today announced that its iPhone will have a longer lasting battery than originally expected, exceeding those in rival phones.

The iPhone will feature up to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback or 24 hours of audio playback. In addition, iPhone will feature up to 250 hours - more than 10 days - of standby time. Apple also announced that the entire top surface of iPhone, including its 3.5-inch display, has been upgraded from plastic to optical-quality glass to achieve a superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity.

The iPhone introduces an entirely new user interface based on a multi-touch display and new software that allows users to control iPhone with just a tap, flick or pinch of their fingers. iPhone combines three products into a lightweight handheld - a mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and the Internet on the go with applications on a mobile phone for email, web browsing and maps.

battery life is big, with this large screen, I bet that 8 hours turns into 4 after 1 year.

Too bad you can't change it yourself. Although I'm sure someone will do a write-up on how to change the battery, much like iPods.

Battery life is terrible. Very little usage and recharging after 30 hours.

Im having poor battery life times also. I did a search on ebay and there are so called "HIGH CAPACITY" batteries available but no real specifications or expected life. Ive had my iphone open before and its a solder job to change the battery + a long slow prying process to slowly let the goop holding the battery in actually release it. There is a guide fixyouriphone.co.nr on opening your phone, once open its a snap to solder the new one in. You need #00 phillips head drivers to get it open and a lot of patience.

Extended battery life with the 3Gs hasn't been my experience. After a long day of talking, messaging, e-mailing, and internet-ing, I'm usually using the mobile charger on my way home from work to give it a hit to get through the evening with. But no matter, I'm used to wearing out batteries quickly. Not a deal-breaker for me. Geri O
