AT&T plans to offer a new mobile digital TV service this Sunday, including full-length shows and some movies, and will charge $15 per month for 10 channels.
Operated by Qualcomm, AT&T said it will have two exclusive channels on the service. The company already has a mobile video service called CV, which is based on different technology, but provides short clips on demand rather than live broadcasts."AT&T Mobile TV is an experience that will significantly change and customers' lifestyles," said Mark Collins, vice president of Consumer Data for AT&T's wireless unit. "We worked closely with LG and Samsung to deliver these handsets, which are designed for our mobile TV viewing audience." Monthly packages will cost $15 a month for about 10 channels including Comedy Central, ESPN, MTV and NBC News. Or it will charge $13 for just four channels. Since AT&T Mobile TV operates on MediaFLO USA's multicast network, customers do not incur data or voice charges. AT&T said two handsets that will initially work with the service -- the LG Vu, a touch screen phone for $300, and the Samsung Access, a more traditional phone for $200. Other TV-capable phones will be available later.
