Software developer UIQ, jointly owned by Sony Ericsson and Motorola, has filed for bankruptcy in a district court in Sweden.
The Sweden-based company began cutting staff six months ago after its owners decided to merge its software with the Symbian platform.
World number one mobile handset maker Nokia last month finalized its acquisition of Symbian and has pledged to make the software available free of charge.
"There are no opportunities to create a new line of business in the current financial climate," said CEO Johan Sandberg. The company has around 200 employees.
