Sprint today announced enhancements to its push-to-talk messaging network by adding NextMail Locator, a service that adds GPS coordinates, location timestamps, street addresses and interactive maps to messages.
The company said users will be able to send location, date, time and voice observations to dispatchers, call centers or field workers.
An interactive map lets recipients see an aerial view of the sender's location, a hybrid view showing the names of roads and streets surrounding the sender, and a bird's eye view that provides a snapshot of the location.
Customers will be able to use the tool to share real-time information to command centers.
"NextMail Locator will allow mobile workers in industries such as transportation, utilities, field service and public safety to increase productivity by communicating their voice message along with their location to their home office or another worker without waiting for a call to be answered," said Danny Bowman, President of Nextel Direct Connect for Sprint.
NextMail Locator is available on select GPS-enabled Nextel phones. Unlimited use is available for $19.99 per month.
