The company said the Omnia HD is the world's first handheld capable of recording and decoding high-definition-quality video (720P).

With a 16:9 aspect ratio screen and 16.7 million colors, Omnia HD's large 3.7-inch AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) auto-rotating screen offers improved sharpness, more vivid colors and greater clarity in direct sunlight.

Users can watch what they record on HD TVs or share real-time live video via qik.com.

The Omnia HD also has high-speed HSDPA Internet up to 7.2Mbps.

Built-in GPS with an integrated compass turns the smartphone into a personal navigation device, for both pedestrians and drivers. Dual stereo speakers provide voice guided directions for navigation.

"Samsung Omnia HD is an incredibly exciting product for us as it is a mobile perfectly suited to the needs of today's consumers who want exciting multimedia experiences on the move," said JK Shin, Samsung's Head of Mobile Communication. "Omnia HD demonstrates our vision for the Samsung mobile business, which is to provide premium phones for users who desire functionality, style, usability and entertainment in one innovative device."

Samsung has yet to release a launch date or price.
