Internet calling company Skype has reached a deal with Nokia under which the world's leading handset maker will preload Skype software into some of its new smartphones.
Skype, the popular program that lets its users make long-distance calls using their computers, has been moving into the mobile space with deals with operators such as Hutchison Whampoa's 3.
"We believe that mobile is incredibly important to our future," said Josh Silverman, Skype's Chief Executive. "The Nokia announcement is really a major milestone. When we partner with manufacturers we are able to deliver a superior experience."
Nokia will install Skype on its high-end Nseries phones, starting with the N97 in the third quarter.
Skype had 405 million registered users in total at the end of last year.
