The MC55 EDA (Enterprise Digital Assistants) combines a mobile phone, two-way radio, bar code scanner, digital camera, and mobile computer into a compact design.
Running on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 with a Marvell XScale PXA270 520 MHz processor, it supports GPS for directions for drivers and real-time fleet location, geo-fencing and bread-crumbing for dispatchers.
It also has a 1D laser scanner or 2D imager.
A 2.0-megapixel auto-focus camera can be added to the scanner for easy capture of a signature (document capture) or a photograph (image capture) for proof of condition or delivery.
The MC55 comes in two models and multiple configurations. The MC5590 has Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g (WLAN) and Bluetooth, for use within warehouse or retail stores. For calls, the it supports VoIP. The MC5574 includes a GSM modem that works on AT&T and T-Mobile networks.
"The MC55 illustrates Motorola's ability to help mobile workers work without boundaries, with robust connectivity to mission-critical business applications in a compact business-class device," said Bob Chen, Vice President of Motorola's Enterprise Mobility division.
The MC5590 is available worldwide through Motorola PartnerSelect members and Motorola sales. The MC5574 is available in EMEA, Latin America and the Asia Pacific region, and is expected to be available in North America and globally in the second quarter of 2009.
