LG Electronics today launched the Arena, its flagship touch screen handset with Dolby Mobile technology, in Europe.
The South Korean handset maker said the Arena is the world's first handset to use Dolby Mobile technology, for surround sound when listening to music and watching videos. The handset has a 3.0-inch WVGA touch screen -- four times sharper resolution than standard QVGA screens -- so users can watch DVD-quality DivX or Xvid movies. Its 5.0-megapixel camera also has D1 recording to capture DVD-resolution video. Hundreds of music and movie files can be added with its 40GB memory, including 8GB of internal memory and a microSD slot. The company said video and photos can easily be shared on social networking sites over high-speed 3G Internet and Wi-Fi. An FM transmitter and 3.5mm audio jack leaves space for users who want to enjoy their music in the car, at home on a stereo or with preferred ear phones. Debuting with LG's new S-Class interface, the Arena features a "3D cube" layout with four customizable home screens, which users can flip with just the flick of a finger. "When Arena was firstly unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2009, we saw great excitement from our customers in its stand-alone multimedia features," said Skott Ahn, the head of LG Mobile. "Visitors particularly appreciated features such as the world's first Dolby Mobile and the 3D S-Class user interface, which makes accessing these other features a much more enjoyable experience." LG said the Arena comes will be available for purchase starting in March in major European markets.
