German-based design firm Pilotfish today unveiled the Ondo, a new concept music phone that physically twists and bends to edit music on the go.
The company said the Ondo will initially target amateur musicians and music enthusiasts, but it also sees a wider appeal for the handset.
Its main touch screen is similar to today's chamshell devices -- consisting of three 'sticks' that can be separately clipped onto musical instruments or people to capture live sound.
Isolated sounds each stick picks up can then be sent via multimedia message so musicians at different geographical locations to jam together.
Made from form-sensitive flexible materials, users can physically twist and bend to feel and hear recorded sounds being modified -- like a guitarist pulling on a whammy bar.
"The technology should be available in two to three years," said Stefanel Barutcieff, senior industrial designer at Pilotfish.
Pilotfish said the Ondo will reach the market a few years from now at the earliest.
