BlackBerry maker Research In Motion and computer giant Hewlett-Packard said they have agreed to a strategic alliance to design and sell business software for the popular BlackBerry smartphones.
The two companies will develop new software to increase productivity among business users that need to work while on the move. One of the services include, among other things, HP's CloudPrint for BlackBerry smartphones, which allows users to print emails, documents, photos and Web pages directly from their devices.
HP will also launch HP Operations Manager for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, software to better manage and control IT.
"Under the HP and RIM alliance we plan to design solutions that make mobile employees more productive, help businesses increase service levels and save money on their mobile investments," said Paul Tsaparis, chief executive of Hewlett-Packard Canada. "Despite the tough economic times, we see opportunities to enable mobile professionals in a secure, trusted way as being extremely important to both of our businesses."
HP said the deal with RIM doesn't mean that it is abandoning its own line of Windows Mobile-based devices.
