T-Mobile will begin selling the MyTouch 3G, its new "Google phone," in August -- facing off against high-end devices such as the Apple iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre.
The No. 4 U.S. carrier said, MyTouch 3G is a slimmer, more advanced version of the G1, the first phone that used Google's Android software.
The new phone looks similar to the iPhone and has many of the same features, including a similarly sized touch screen.
It features a built-in 3.2-megapixel camera, music player and video capabilities to share photos and videos on sites like YouTube and Picasa.
The smartphone can also be personalized with custom home screens, widgets and can also learn user preferences and offer recommendations.
Google's Android software lets users connect to corporate email servers.
"We believe a lot of this market will come from people who are moving into the smartphone space for the first time," said Cole Brodman, T-Mobile's chief technology officer. "G1 buyers were much more of a tech-enthusiast, early adopter-type crowd."
Apple unveiled its latest iPhone, the 3GS, last Friday with new features and faster speeds, intensifying competition in the high-end smartphone market. Apple and AT&T also slashed the price of the older iPhone model.
The T-Mobile MyTouch 3G is available for pre-order from July 8 onwards and costs $199 with a two-year contract. It comes in white, black and wine red colors.
sounds hot. But android over windows sounds like a big downgrade! the guys over at xda are porting android to the wing as we speak. Windows will decemate all! Im running 6.5 on my wings rite now! so the need to upgrade to another windows phone is not nesecerary. If i do it will only be to renew my contract.
