Sprint said it will now require its smartphone have Wi-Fi -- including an updated version of the BlackBerry Tour to be released next year -- to keep up with rivals AT&T and T-Mobile, who have embraced the wireless technology.
"Sprint is embracing Wi-Fi in all its major devices going forward," said Jeff Clemow, Sprint's director of business product marketing. "It is now a requirement for all our PDA equipment suppliers."The Overland Park, Kan.-based company declined to provide a launch date for its new Wi-Fi-enabled BlackBerry Tour, other than saying "sometime after the first of the year." The Wi-Fi-less BlackBerry Tour will still be launched Sunday for $200. Verizon Wireless will also release the Tour on the same day for the same price.
