AT&T, the second-largest U.S. carrier, announced that the Nokia Surge, a new QWERTY slider focused on social networking, will be released next week.
The Dallas, Texas-based company said the Surge runs on Symbian's S60 interface and features slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
It is designed with social networking in mind, offering access to popular sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr through the JuiceCaster application.
Users can watch YouTube videos and view most sites in full HTML.
The Surge comes with a built-in 2.0-megapixel camera to capture photos and videos and make video calls through AT&T Video Share.
Other online services include AT&T Music and Video to download songs and stream clips, and AT&T Navigator for turn-by-turn directions and traffic alerts.
"This smartphone supports social networking and messaging -- and all on an open platform," said David Petts, Nokia's vice president and general manager.
The Nokia Surge will be available starting July 19 for $80 with a two-year service agreement.
