Verizon Wireless today released an automatic software update for the Samsung Omnia, unlocking its GPS to use with other location-based services such as Google Maps.
The Basking Ridge, N.J.-based carrier said it previously restricted users to its VZ Navigator -- a turn-by-turn directions GPS application -- but will now open it up so users can choose from other third-party navigation solutions.
Other additions include the latest Microsoft Adaptation Kit Upgrade (AKU 1.5.1) and Bluetooth connection support for VZ Access Manager (SPP).
The update will occur this afternoon but owners can also download and install the software manually.
